I shot this photo in Wenshan, China when my aunt took me to see her old childhood village. During my stay in this part of rural China, the weather outside was still cold and very often shrouded in thick fog that made it extremely difficult to shoot any landscape photography, so I remembered just staying inside a lot watching the families play mahjong and shooting portraits of them instead. So that's when I found this table in a living room filled with mahjong tiles on it and later asked the elders if they could help teach me how to play the game. They stared at me for a moment and later went to get these three little rascals to come play with me instead.
