The only way I got to reach these remarkable villages and places in China was by word of mouth. Two days before Chinese New Year 2015, I arrived late one night at my friend's home in Fen Jiao Village and got up early the next morning to see if I could find some rice terraces to photograph of. Lo and behold, there was one just right out in front of the home that sort of took me by surprise as soon as I stepped outside the door. I can't entirely say that this was what I had at all expected the night before as I tried imagining what outside would look like when the sun was out. I actually was planning on making a run on a day-long bus ride a couple days after the first day of Chinese New Year to try to photograph the highly-revered Yuan Yang rice terraces just five hours away, but unfortunately the bus stations were closed for the first four days for the New Year. So this was just my luck!
